Job Overview: A natural stone and quartz material handler is responsible for the safe and efficient handling of slabs and other stone materials within a warehouse or production facility. Their primary duty is to move, transport, and store slabs and remnants using various equipment and tools.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Material Handling: The main responsibility of a material handler is to handle slabs and other stone materials. This includes loading and unloading slabs from trucks or containers, moving them within the facility, and arranging them for storage or transportation.
- Equipment Operation: Material handlers operate different types of equipment to handle slabs and remnants such as forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet jacks, and hoists. You will be required to safely and efficiently operate equipment to minimize the risk of accidents and damage to the materials.
- Inventory Management: Material handlers are responsible for maintaining accurate records of incoming and outgoing materials, ensuring that the inventory is properly organized and labeled, and reporting any discrepancies or shortages to the lead or purchasing.
- Quality Control: Material handlers are required to inspect the quality and condition of the incoming material, checking for any cracks, chips, or other defects. Report any issues to the appropriate staff members and mark any imperfections on the material to ensure only high-quality materials are used.
- Safety Compliance: Safety is a top priority in material handling. Handlers should follow all safety protocols and guidelines to prevent injuries and accidents. This includes wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), maintaining a clean and organized work area, and using proper lifting techniques when handling heavy slabs.
- Teamwork and Communication: Required to work as part of a team and will need to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other departments. Applicants should be able to take direction, collaborate with others, and provide input when necessary.
- Maintenance and Cleaning: Responsible for performing routine inspections, reporting any malfunctions, and keeping the equipment clean and in good working condition. Maintain a clean working area, including sweeping and removing debris.
